Why Choose Alex:
I am intensely thoughtful and well-considered when I give direct advice. My clients have often reported that I'm a "wealth of knowledge." If I give an opinion, I'll tell you where my thinking comes from. I enjoy sharing my thoughts, supporting evidence, and the current state of the scientific literature with my clients in an easily digestible way. I'm a teacher at heart. And I enjoy helping wherever I can even well outside the confines of training and nutrition programming. My gift (and obsession) is optimizing whole people, not just training or nutrition plans. If there are pros and cons and tradeoffs to be weighed, I can help make sense of them so that you can make the best, most informed decisions for yourself. When asked, I can make decisions for you, too. I'll still want you to be informed at least briefly about the "why" behind the plan, but I enjoy meeting clients where they are in their real-world bandwidth and interest for the behind-the-scenes.
Personally, when I decide to learn about a subject, I tend to feel the need to know everything there is to know about it so that I can simplify the seemingly complex for my clients. That has led me to become an industry leader in personalized sports fuel and hydration. My wife and I have founded a company called Saturday Inc., and our app, "Saturday," is the culmination of many years of coaching folks to optimize their training and racing fuel and hydration.
While it's sometimes fun to nerd out in the weeds, I am the ultimate pragmatist. The scientific details don't matter if we're missing the forest for the trees. The details that often matter more are your day-to-day logistics. The real world is very different from one laboratory study written in scientific literature. Your time and energy are limited, and outside stressors are aplenty. If there is a simpler, easier, cheaper, or more enjoyable way for you to achieve the same or better outcome, I suggest it. I help optimize our approach for whatever your real world looks like. Picking low-hanging fruit and wisely prioritizing effort is key to nearly anything. Having been a 1:1 coach for RP for nearly 10 years and over a thousand clients one-on-one, my experience allows me to triage and to "see around the corner" for my clients.
Most people overestimate what they can do in 1-3 months and underestimate what they can do in 1-3 years, let alone 10 years. I've experienced this first-hand and have had the unending pleasure of watching many long-term clients do the same. Whichever coach you pick, you will be in very good hands with the RP coaching staff. This crew is heads and tails above the rest of the industry in the quality advice and guidance you'll find.
My coaching style is honest, encouraging, pragmatic, holistic, and big-picture goal-oriented I help manage the nitty gritty logistics without you needing to obsess over unnecessary details. I encourage very lofty goal-setting within my clients' bandwidths. I'll iron out the logistics of exactly how to achieve them. Sometimes, "lofty" is atop the podium at the Olympics. Other times, it's exercising three days a week for a month after a particularly challenging season of life. I've been in both places, and I enjoy helping folks across the spectrum.
